Everyone has an artistic style, but is it a Signature Style? We spent three days studying a handful of the Signature Style masters and contemporary artists to see what made their art a Signature Style. Then we evaluated our art to see how we could enhance our style and make it Signature. Some very talented and fun artists came to learn more and shared some of their techniques with each other as they explored even deeper at the play stations set up for graphite, colored pencil, pastel, acrylic and watercolor.
Colored pencil can be combined with a multitude of mediums – acrylic, watercolor, pastel, and ink just to name a few. It can also be blended or burnished with a coloreless blender pencil or marker, turpenoid or mineral spirits. The eye below was started with an acrylic wash underpainting. Colored pencil was added for detail and will be used to complete the eye.
I think my first love is for graphite. It is so simple, yet it can be very dynamic. Now with so many graphite options to choose from, it’s even better. Water soluble pencils and sticks, and liquid graphite. Just add water and voila! AND when it dries, it’s erasable!!:) Time to work….I mean “play”!! The participants explored techniques at the various play stations. Our wonderful meeting room filled with natural light. The group and their explorations. Happy creating and developing of your Signature Style!
