Every Face Tells a Story!
Feeling gratefully blessed! I have loved drawing/painting portraits for as long as I can remember. Even with that said, I wasn’t the best at it when I was younger! My desire to be able to draw realistically nudged me along to find others who could help me to that end. I fondly remember my Jr. High and Highschool art teachers, Mr. Hansen and Mr. Broderick who encouraged me. This last year I was honored to be included in the 2021 Best of Drawing magazine with my portrait of Jerry-Mac Johnston! He is such a wonderful person and a wonderful model to work with. His stories have just as much character as his wonderful face!! We traveled the world listening to his stories while he sat for my art class and we worked. Thank you Jerry-Mac for allowing me and my students the opportunity to have you as a model more than once!
My second honor came when my pastel portrait of Shirley Harris won 2nd place in the Portrait Society of America -Kansas/Missouri Spring competition! Shirley was another very interesting model. At our first meeting to discuss the portrait, we ended up talking for about two hours!! She too has lived a very interesting life and I admire her courage and her spirit! I believe every face tells a story and I love to tell that story!
If you ever thought you couldn’t do this, I’m here to tell you, if I can, YOU CAN! Take the first step to your dream of becoming an artist and join me in my Everyone Can Learn to Draw 8 week course June 8 – July 27th.
